How You Can Help

Want to make a difference in the lives of individuals 17 and older living with intellectual and developmental disabilities? Volunteer your time and share your talents. North Texas SNAP volunteers are the heart of our organization and we make every effort to provide you with a variety of opportunities to get involved and utilize your gifts.

Volunteering with North Texas SNAP provides:

  • A sense of community among those who need it most

Listed below are a few ways you can get involved and help make a difference.

Facilitate a Workshop

North Texas SNAP workshops promote continual learning. Weekly workshops focus on a wide range of practical topics that help our members improve or learn a new skill including relationship building, money management and career building. If you are interested in facilitating a workshop, please contact us.

J.O.B.S. Club 

Just Our Business Support (J.O.B.S.) Club meets on the 1st Monday of the month at the North Texas SNAP office 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

North Texas SNAP is looking for business professionals to share their experiences in the workplace including their first job, successes and failures, how you worked your way up to the position you currently hold and provide advice for being a good employee. If you are interested in being a guest speaker and sharing employment-related topics, please contact us.

Exceptional Living for Exceptional Women (“Girls’ Night Out”)

Girls’ Night Out meets on the 4th Monday of the month at the North Texas SNAP office 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

North Texas SNAP is looking for women within our community that would like to share their talents, hobbies or topics unique to women such as self-advocacy, financial independence, women’s health and healthy self-image. If you are interested in volunteering with Girls’ Night Out, please contact us.

Men’s Club

North Texas SNAP Men’s Club meets on the 4th Friday of the month at the North Texas SNAP office 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

North Texas SNAP is looking for men within our community that would like to share their talents, hobbies or topics unique to men such as self-reliance, financial independence, men's health, collaboration and citizenship. If you are interested in volunteering with Men’s Club, please contact us

Social

North Texas SNAP’s social activities provides members with opportunities to form friendships and fill the void of isolation that is often experienced by individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The Social Committee meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at the SNAP Office at 1:30 p.m. We encourage parents, members and community professionals to serve on the committee to help provide our members with a variety of social activities.

  • Spring and Christmas Dance –
    • The social committee welcomes volunteers that would like to share their gifts to help with the spring and Christmas dance including set-up, decorating, food service and clean-up.
       
  • Quarterly Birthday Parties –
    • The social committee welcomes volunteers that would like to share their gifts to help with quarterly birthday parties including set-up, decorating, food service and clean-up.
       
  • Event Chaperons –
    • The social committee welcomes volunteers to join us at group events (such as putt-putt, horse races, Bush library, etc.) to help monitor attendees.
               
  • Community Project Coordinator –
    • The social committee welcomes volunteers to help coordinate community service projects for North Texas SNAP members to give back.

Special Events and Projects

North Texas SNAP welcomes volunteers to work on special events and projects so that staff can focus their efforts on serving SNAP members. Areas of need include:

  • Fundraising
  • Grant writing
  • Marketing/Public Relations
  • Special Events (Golf Classic / Boots & Bling Casino Night)
  • Social Media
