PROGRAMS & ACTIVITIES

Education:  SNAP promotes continued learning experiences after high school.  SNAP’s Program Manager, Paula Baker,  facilitates  workshops on a variety of topics where our Members participate in learning how to interview for employment and problem solving on the job, as well as, interpersonal and independent living skills.  SNAP also helps support the Come Read with Me Program which promotes life-long learning.  See Calendar for complete update of activities and workshops.

Employment:  SNAP’s Workforce Internship Program was developed to help prepare Members for employment through volunteer working internships with area employers.  SNAP’s Program Manager, Paula Baker,  matches Members (interns) with employers and acts as a liaison to facilitate communication and an optimum experience for both parties.

Exceptional Living for Exceptional Women offers “Girls’ Night Out”:  This Program is run by one of our parent Members, with the assistance of Paula Baker. They meet each month on the 4th Monday at the SNAP office at 6:30 p.m. This Program provides our ladies with information regarding issues unique to women such as self-advocacy, financial independence, proper health, self-image while affording them a forum in which they can socialize, develop friendships and support each other.

J.O.B.S. Club:  Just our Business Support group meets on the 1st Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the SNAP office.  Under the direction of SNAP’s Program Manager, Paula Baker, the J.O.B.S. Club allows Members to come together to share their work experiences, discuss problems on the job and learn how to develop skills and attitudes to succeed in the work place. Often guest speakers from the community businesses come to share insights with the group.  J.O.B.S. Club continues to grow in the number of participants each month with parents meeting in a discussion group during the J.O.B.S. meeting.

Project Neighbor Program:  We have 5 Members participating in this Program which has allowed these Members to live independently with a little support.   Paula Baker works with Members to develop independent living skills, interpersonal skills and problem solving skills, as well, as oversee their general well-being.  Ms. Baker teams with the Member’s families to develop their network of support.

Serving as a Voice for the Special Needs Community:  SNAP also is collaborating with The Arc of Northeast Tarrant County, the Down Syndrome Partnership of Tarrant County, Texas Christian University – Alice S. Neeley Institute, and  Kinderfrogs School at TCU to present a series of Learning Together Workshops on topics beneficial to Members and families. SNAP participates in area transition fairs, seminars, various community events and area Chambers of Commerce.

Social Program:  SNAP Members enjoy a very active social program with supper club, bowling, movies, dances and other planned activities.  SNAP’s Social Programs give Members the opportunity to form friendships and to fill a void left by isolation often faced by people with intellectual disabilities.  The more experiences our Members have within the safety of the group, the more likely they are to try new ventures.  Contact Regina Kropf, Social Director for more information.  The SNAP Calendar is updated weekly with new activities and events.

Transportation Voucher Program:  As a result of persistence and hard work by several SNAP volunteers, SNAP’s Transportation Program was initiated in August of 2009.  Grants and donations to the transportation fund have allowed Members greater individual freedom.  Through Yellow Cab, SNAP provides Members needed transportation to jobs, school, social activities, and in general, travel throughout the Mid-Cities area.  Contact  Cylinda Marshall at the SNAP office for details.
