The question of "Why do we do what we do?" is always close at heart. Originally, we, as Family Members, organized SNAP because of our sons and daughters. We have now expanded our circle to include many in Northeast Tarrant County.
Our mission is to create and maintain a coordinated system of community supports where our Members can live, work and play independently.
It
is of vital importance that the community support systems we
put in place will extend into the future, and be in place when
Family Members are deceased. As parents of Members with cognitive
disabilities, we understand both the day-to-day struggles and
the immense joys of the smallest successes in the lives of our
children. By opening doors for our sons and daughters, we open
doors for scores of other individuals in our community.
Changes
happen by having a shared vision and mission, implementing social
adjustments that make a difference in the lives of our Members,
and working closely together. We believe in building a community
support system where Members with cognitive disabilities are
an integral part of the community.
So,
the "Why we do it" is because we cannot "Not" do it. What will happen if we stop? Our Members are our family. It is our privilege, our responsibility and our mission to establish the necessary support systems for our Members and have them in place now and for generations to come.
